Q. Does my cat need a collar ?
A. No, cats do not require a collar.
If your cat normally wears a collar at home, then some catteries with permit them..
However most prefer NOT to wear a collar as they can become chocking hazards.
Q. What to bring ?
A. Most cats won’t play with any toys you bring, especially if they are new to a cattery. It’s generally a waste of effort and you will likely just lose them when you go to pick up your cat.
Q. Should I bring my own food ?
A. Yes.
While catteries will without doubt supply food if you don’t bring your own, this is one of the easiest things you can do to help a cat settle into a new cattery. Don’t expect a discount (as it’s more work for a cattery if everyone has their own food), but still best for your cat.
It is also much easier on the cat’s stomach. Cats will often experiance diarrhea when suddenly switching from one type of food to another.
Q. Does my cat need to be vaccinated ?
A. Definitely yes.
No vaccination, no stay – for the protection of all cats a current vaccination certificate must be produced.
Cats require a current F3 or F4 Vaccination.
Vaccination must have been administered within the previous 12 months, and not due for a booster until after scheduled checkout date. For long term occupants requiring a vaccination while in our care, we can provide transport (additional cost) to a veterinarian to receive this.
Q. Should my cat be treated for fleas
A. Victorian Government regulation require all cats be regularly wormed and treated for fleas.
Unfortunately flees are a fact of life, but if your cat is treated correctly – they should not get them.
· Cats staying longer than 1 month will need to be regularly treated during their stay. Treatments can generally be either owner supplied or supplied by the Cattery (at owners expense)
Q. Can I bring a heating pad or drinking fountain ?
A. Check with your cattery before hand.
A lot of catteries can accomidate this so long as the devices are electrically safe / serviceable & clean.
